FABTECH 2025 is set to return to the North and Central Halls of McCormick Place in Chicago, IL, from September 8–11, and Formtek is proud to announce that our very own Paul Williams, Vice President of Business Development, will be presenting several valuable educational sessions as part of the Forming and Fabricating track. For metal forming professionals looking to enhance line performance, reduce confusion around press ratings, and optimize their roll forming operations, these sessions are a must.
With over 40 years of experience in the roll forming industry, Paul Williams brings a depth of knowledge that bridges both hands-on shop floor expertise and high-level production strategy. His focus on practical insights and engineering fundamentals makes him a trusted voice in roll forming technology. This year, Paul will explore two critical topics that directly impact production efficiency and equipment selection in roll forming.
What Can Attendees Expect from Paul Williams’ Presentations at FABTECH 2025?
- Expert Insights with Global Relevance: Bringing decades of hands-on experience and deep technical expertise, Paul Williams will deliver thought-provoking insights on the key trends and technologies shaping the future of manufacturing. His sessions will offer a global perspective on how these developments are influencing roll forming operations and equipment strategies.
- Actionable Solutions for Today’s Challenges: In alignment with Formtek’s focus on practical innovation, Paul will present field-tested strategies and proven methods to overcome real-world manufacturing challenges. Attendees will leave with a toolbox of ideas they can implement immediately to drive efficiency and operational improvement.
- Maximizing ROI from Existing Roll Forming Lines: Paul will share advanced techniques to extract greater value from existing equipment. His sessions will explore how to improve productivity, reduce waste, and boost overall performance, all while managing costs and extending the lifecycle of current assets.
- Understanding Press Tonnage and Selection: A key highlight of Paul’s presentations will be an in-depth comparison of mechanical, pneumatic (air), and hydraulic presses. He’ll break down how tonnage ratings are interpreted, and sometimes misunderstood, in roll forming applications, helping attendees choose the right press based on application, accuracy needs, and production goals.
- Engaged and Interactive Learning: More than just lectures, Paul’s sessions are designed to be interactive. Attendees can expect engaging Q&A opportunities, in-depth technical discussions, and plenty of time to connect one-on-one, making his presentations a valuable forum for collaboration and idea-sharing.
Unlock Roll Forming Efficiency: Two Expert-Led Sessions with Paul Williams at FABTECH 2025
1. Add Value To Your Roll Forming Lines with In-line Punching and Cutoff Options
Date: Tuesday, September 9, 2025
Time: 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM
Track: Forming and Fabricating
Session Code: F069
In this session, Paul will explore the benefits and design considerations of integrating in-line punching and cutoff systems into roll forming lines. Whether you’re fabricating structural profiles, custom shapes, or OEM parts, understanding how to properly engineer in-line capabilities can drastically improve throughput, accuracy, and overall flexibility. Attendees will learn how different press types and configurations affect line dynamics and product outcomes, and how these systems can reduce secondary operations.
2. When the Press Tonnage Rating Is Really Not That Tonnage in Roll Forming
Date: Wednesday, September 10, 2025
Time: 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM
Track: Forming and Fabricating
Session Code: F074
Tonnage ratings can be misleading if you’re not factoring in how force is delivered and absorbed during roll forming. In this eye-opening session, Paul will clarify the often misunderstood relationship between stated press tonnage and the actual forming force required during production. He’ll discuss why some presses fall short despite appearing to meet specs—and how to correctly assess and select equipment based on real-world demands rather than nameplate ratings.
