The Importance of Manufacturing Day

Written by Katherine Sargeant | August 20, 2018

For the past 5 years, Manufacturing Day has been a concerted effort by the industry to encourage students to go into trades after college and debunk some common misconceptions about a career in trades.

As the labor shortage in the United States continues to steadily increase, employers are shifting towards a more laissez-faire approach to experienced workers across all industries. The main difference between manufacturing jobs and other industries, however, is manufacturing jobs still remain unfilled, even with incentives.

Manufacturing Day’s main goal is to answer questions about common misconceptions about the industry and is one of the largest pushes to educate the next generation of workers, and to show manufacturing as a great industry to enter as a career path.

There is no set template for a Manufacturing Day, making it a fun and unique event that each company can make their own, tailoring it to that company in particular. Students should go to a different manufacturer every year, like how other students tour colleges.
